RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- The state prosecutor will drop all remaining charges Wednesday against three Duke lacrosse players who were accused of sexual assaulting a stripper at a team party, a person close to the case told The Associated Press.
The North Carolina Attorney General's office, which took over the case in January after the local district attorney was accused of ethics violations in his handling of it, said it would have announcement on the case at 2:30 p.m.
Prosecutors did not say what the announcement would be.
A grand jury indicted the three players on charges of rape, kidnapping and sexual offense last spring after a woman told police she was assaulted at a March 2006 team party where she was hired to perform as a stripper. All three have maintained their innocence, with one publicly calling the allegations "fantastic lies."
